TerryConnect adds digital dimension to networking

Updated platform fosters community building and flash mentoring

The Terry College of Business recently rolled out upgrades to TerryConnect. The updated online platform fosters community building and social networking, while the formal mentoring opportunities that TerryConnect used to host for Terry alumni and students are now offered through the UGA Mentor Program.

TerryConnect allows students, alumni, faculty and staff to find and join others in their field, city or company of interest.

Similar to professional social networking sites like LinkedIn, TerryConnect allows members to request connections with students and alumni. Through flash mentoring, students gain advice, feedback and tips from professionals in the field. Alumni can also connect with one another and build their professional network within the global Terry community.

“Community is such an important part of Terry, for alumni and students alike,” said Christine Smith, director of alumni relations. “We hope more people will take advantage of this expanded platform and experience all that TerryConnect has to offer.”

The platform also allows users to join affinity groups and interact on discussion boards.

“We wanted to make it easy for alumni to get involved with the college, especially those who don’t have the flexibility to come to campus. Through TerryConnect, all they have to do is set up their online profile, and they can begin connecting,” said Smith.

Another change to TerryConnect is the integration of Terry PeerLink, the college’s student-to-student mentorship program. Through Terry PeerLink, underclassmen, recent transfer students and those new to the college are paired with highly engaged Terry students for semester-long peer mentoring. Participants meet monthly to discuss long- and short-term goals, develop resumes, explore Terry programs and events, and build a strong network.

“Because TerryConnect is focused on developing new professional relationships, we thought it was the perfect platform to host Terry PeerLink,” said Sarah Allgood, student engagement coordinator with Terry’s Undergraduate Student Services. “Just as alumni can connect with each other, through Terry PeerLink, current students can receive firsthand advice and information from those actively involved in the college.” The newly integrated Terry PeerLink feature will be available to students in early September.

Students and alumni are encouraged to join TerryConnect at terry.peoplegrove.com.
